Trump’s recently appointed Special Envoy to Greenland, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, who publicly stated that the mission of his part-time role is to make Greenland a part of the United States. Trump’s appointment of Landry to this position without the consultation of Denmark, and statements made today by the President, have reignited tensions between the two allies over aggressive - almost belligerent - behavior towards Denmark by the Trump Administration over Greenland.

So we’ll have to work it all out… We need Greenland for national security, not for minerals - we have so many sites for minerals and oil and everything - we have more oil than any other country in the world. We need Greenland for national security.”
